Twist - ads (1979)

b/w - Rebound

Here's the 2nd and final 45 (issued without a picture sleeve) from this London band.

For their 1st go to yesterdays post @ Deadbeats & no ones & whilst you are there you can read the info as there is no point me repeating it.

the Trend - Polly and Wendy (1980)

b/w - family way

Listening to the Fascinators yesterday made me think of this band.

This is their 2nd of 4, 45 releases (all of which are of the same high quality as this) I've chosen this, as it was the only one released with a picture sleeve.
Some of their 1st single ("teenage crush/cool Johnny" on trendy records - 1979) had an insert (or poster or something) with them.

The band came from Hyde in Cheshire and were

Max (Rev) Revell (voc)
Jake Higgs (guitar voc)
Charlie Vincent (guitar voc)
Steve Scott (bass)
Jon Rood (drums)

the Fascinators - blue movies (1981)

b/w - monochrome moan

As promised, here's the 2nd 45 by the Fascinators.

For information see yesterdays post.

This was comped on "every ones a (punk rock) classic vol 1" - which you can get here

You gotta love the verse. (I'm not sure what they mean though!)

everybody tells that he's gonna go blind
he says he's very worried
but we know he doesn't mind
he's watching..

the Fascinators - I'm into something good (1981)

b/w - Don't stop now

This is the 1st of 2 45's by the Fascinators (& yes it's another cover)

I have to admit I was in a bit of a quandary as to which to post as both, have their better than good qualities.

So you're going to get both (second tomorrow)

Apparently they were from Harlow & used to be a 70's rock band called Hedgehog
Then in 1981, keeping the same line up, changed their name + style & ....voila became the Fascinators

the band were

Martin Bailey (Voc)
Stephen (Izzy) Izzard (lead guitar)
Robin Kohler (bass)
Stephen Banks (keyboards)
Kevin Ball (drums)

After the 2 singles they seem to have had a bit of a membership re-shuffle. This new line-up reaching the 1981 rock contest finals (whatever they were!!)

Just the job - fears of the years e.p. (1980)

A - Fears of the years
B1 - Street feelings
B2 - London lights

Nice 3 tracker (new wave/powerpop) from this Scottish 5 piece

who were

Paul Middleton (voc)
Graham Bryce (lead guitar/piano/voc)
Craig Smillie (rhythm guitar/voc)
Dave MacLachlan(bass)
Davey Barbour (drums)

I could give you more info but I'd just be plagiarizing Dizzy's work so go to Bored teenagers for a band History

the Donz - Yesterday man (1980)

b/w - War

Yup it's the same as yesterday (there is no pun intended here!) only this version sticks closer to the original.

I don't care, I like this & am posting it because when I was looking for the odds 45 yesterday, it reminded me I had it.

Anyway stick around for the b-side & I expect you will be happy bunnies - you wouldn't believe it's the same band (almost!).

I'm not going to tell you what the sound is ,just download & give it a listen!!

the Odds - Yesterday man (1980)

b/w - so you think

When I posted their 4th 45 I said I couldn't find this anywhere & sort of said I'd post it, so here it is!!

Bit of a ska slant to this Chris Andrews classic. For me it's the b-side that's more listenable ,

the band on this 45 were

Sam Leyland (lead voc)
Keiran Moses (guitar)
Stuart Matthewman (Sax)
Bill McKeown (bass)
Colin Brockwell (drums

the Gents - Modern time (1980)

b/w Angry boys

This is the 2nd of 2 45 releases for this German quartet both in 1980 on sunrise records (released through RCA) the other is "upside down/and everyday"

This has been comped on powerpearls vol 1 which is available here . I'm not sure if the 1st 45 is available anywhere else (it's more 60's sounding than this fine slab of mod revival/punk)

I can tell you the 2 songwriters are

Stefan Bohrer &
Robert Schlunze

the other 2 will have to google themselves, find this & leave a comment!!

the Sensational Spares - No time at all (1983)

b/w - The Windmill

I'd love to give you some info (but I'm not as young as I used to be & the gray cells are diminishing). I picked this up a couple of years ago from one of the band (Nigel - I think! - who gave me some interesting information but alas I've got a new computer since then & I guess it got mislaid in the changeover)

Hey ho - pretty sure these & 3 other tracks were recorded in 1981 but only these 2 were released (In a lovely hard card oversized sleeve - but not until '83)

The Newcastle based band was

Keith "Kosmic" Forster (voc)
Johnny Jetset (guitar)
Nigel Neutron (bass)
"Naughty" Norman Hobbs (drums) ex Arthur 2 Stroke
still, enjoy they are good punk/powerpop tunes

There's a bit more info here & Here

Lips - Say hello to my girl (1978)

b/w - Be cool from school

more powerpop for you!

The A-side was later re-recorded & released as a 45 on Double D records for "The Kraze"

If your wondering - "Is it the same band ?"

Answer is - probably!

The writer Steve Little (voc, guitar) was definitely in both bands. [the co-writer of Say hello was Martin Buckell (guitar, voc) who was not in the Kraze*]

*In case you are wondering The Kraze line-up was: Tony Toole [voc], Steve Little [rhythm guitar], Alan Hourihane [lead guitar], Mike Gorman [bass], Steve Dollman [drums], Lee Dallon [keyboards]

& yes TC Horn the producer is Mr Trevor Horn!

Robert Simmonite (Guitar , Voc)
Peter Bull (Bass, Voc)
Jon Oxley (Drums) - not sure why, but this name is ringing bells to me!

The Frames - False Accusations (1979)

b/w - 69

I wasn't going to post this but ever since I said I'd send it to someone, others have also asked for it.

Not a bad lone 45, all in all from this Portsmouth 4-piece (Although they began in '78 as a quintet)

Sue Jonas (Voc)
Nick Radford (Guitar)
Mike Marshfield (Bass)
Stephen Wood (Drums)
(All aged 15 / 16 at time of release, 15th June)

The 45 war released on their own independent label (Brain Boosters - shared with another local band the attic)
They also provided 2 tracks (Lost In Space / Reduced Watches) to Their 1980 BB V/A LP South Specific

Post Punk A-side with an all together better B-side to these ears

Look out for their Lone Peel Session (Recorded Langham, Portland Place 24/02/81 First Aired 02/03/81)

Cenet rox - Sonny (1980)

b/w - French tutor

Here's what I have pieced together from the internet

The band was from Maidstone in Kent (So sort of Medway related then!)

Members of the band at some point or other seem to have been
Nic Hughes (vocals)
siblings Maxine & Mark
Mark (Eve) Adams (keyboards)
Andy Export guitar

There's more stuff by cenet rox on you-tube

Bange konijnen - Ik ben verliefd op Sandra Kim (1986)

b/w -Lapin Lapin - Je suis fou de Sandra Kim

On first glance it looks like a split 45 but it's the same duo (Elvis Peeters & Fred Angst - members of Belgium political band - Aroma di Amore) Apparently they played as" Lapin Lapin" in southern Belgium (why? - who cares!)

This was the only vinyl outing for Bange konijnen (frightened rabbits)

Sandra Kim was the child singer (14) who won the Euro vision song contest in 1986 .

The lyrics to the song aren't too "politically correct" but the catchy as hell tune makes up for it!

Shit ik ben verliefd op Sandra Kim, Oh shit.
Lekker stuk van 14 jaar
Heel Europa viel voor haar
Voor de beeldbuis kwam ik klaar
Ook premier Martens deed het maar.

(Shit, I am in love with Sandra Kim, oh oh, shit ! ...
Beautiful babe, fourteen years of age
All of Europe was fond of her
In front of the tube she made me cum
Even the PM did it then.)

A1 - Holland
A2 - Oh So different from the crowd

I've been asked too many times for this so OK here it is for everyone to hear!

This Scottish quartet made just the one pretty damn fine ep

According to the sleeve the band were

Donnell (voc)
David Ross (guitar)
J.B. Allison (bass)
Gene Krupa (drums) - is that a Joke?

Ail Symudiad - Twristiaid yn y dre (1980)

b/w
1. - hyfryd bingo
2. - modur sanctaidd

As I was asked (so nicely) here's the 2nd 45 (1st on their own Fflach label) by the band from Cardigan, West Wales - Ail Symudiad (Second movement) - hope this is nothing to do with bowels

"Tourists in the town" is a great slice of punk/powerpop

Bish - He's so foggy (1980)

double A side

b/w - modern women

Nice bit of New wave from this Essex trio

Must admit I've never heard anyone use the term "He's so foggy" - maybe it's an ol' expression from "Southend" way.

Drama - Do you love me (1982)

b/w - Been too long

Usually I love cover versions but this one sucks in a take a great record & stick some "plinky-plonky (not really a technical term but I think it works!) on it" sort of way -

Saying that, if it's some pretty decent powerpop you want then the B-side is for you!

Sorry, don't know anything about the band

the Corvettes - Girls.... (1984)

b/w - The Beach Is Not Enough

Hmmm- another blank on information

Except This is their 2nd 45 [The 1st being Surf, Don't walk / She'll Be Blonde - Bitchen Records BIT 100 (1983)]

Its' surf 'n powerpop ala the Barracudas (In fact it makes me want to dig out their early 45's - any requests? or shall I just dust off "I wish it could be 1965 again")

The London Based Band were
Ricky Corvette (voc)
Kenny Corvette (guitar)
Johnny Corvette (bass)
Craig Corvette (drums)
Ronnie (Paris) Corvette (organ)

The A-side is also available on the Various Artists compilation Hang 11 (Mutant Surf Punks)

Rhubarb - rhubarb ep (1979)

A1 - Millions of people
A2 - Time is the enemy
B1 - Jimmy's Mother
B2 - Broken image

Here's an interesting mod/punk ep from France, giving various tunes (Jimmy's mother being the best to my ears)

This is the sole release for Rhubarb, who seem to consist of 3 Frenchmen & 1 Englishman (I think you should be able to work out who is what)

Jacques Carrio (Voc)
Pierre Fogli (Guitar, Voc)
Jean-Pierre Levy (Bass)
John Townsend (drums, Voc)

Uncle Po - Use my friends (1978)

b/w - 15 minutes

OK, I'm only posting this as it was requested.

Fairly decent New Wave band from Bristol

Personally I don't think it's a high point in my collection, especially once you know the pedigree of the members & the bands they went on to join/form:

Gavin King (Private Dicks)
Rob Williams (the Fans)
Jim Hill (sneak preview)
Helen Spike Bevington (dexys midnight runners)

the Sleepers - Angel in a raincoat e.p. (1980)

A1 - Angel in a raincoat
A2 - Endless
B1 - A murder
B2 - TWBI

only 500 pressed & apparently no sleeve
- strangely I have a fuzzy scan of the band with mine (probably filched from a website some where (LDK? - if so sorry!)) - looks like it's from the same photo session as the info on bored teenagers (cross on forehead)

whatever, this Grimsby quartet give us some great punk/powerpop!

Jedrzej Dmochowski - sha la la (1982)

b/w - ruined city

Some of you will know this cheeky chappie from his earlier band the VIP's.

As you can see there are 2 different picture sleeves for this release (I'm not sure which came 1st or indeed why - An
educated guess would be something to do with the forename change between Jed & Jedrzej.)

If you like this there is a whole LP called "Stallions of my heart" - also on Whaam records (of which I've included 1 track in the download - for Frank @ shotgun solution)

Special clinic - when the going gets rough (1978)

b/w - Sumo stomp

Here's something a bit different from the Midlands - this gets a bit of a slagging off in Mario's "45 revs book" (band info cribbed from there - thanks again!!)

Personally I don't know why
The A-side's got a nice 'n' lazy/funky
beat, admittedly it's a bit too long!
The B-side definitely falls into the new wave bracket

Apparently the 2 sides have a different line-up

A - Dave Tickle (voc/guitar)
John Potter (guitar)
Dave Keene (bass)
Pete Haddock (guitar)
Hal Haddock (drums)

B -Dave Tickle (voc/guitar)
John Potter (guitar)
Dave Keene (bass)

The Bradford band were

Tonie Harlow (voc)
Paul June (guitar, voc)
Mick Potter (guitar, voc)

the Plugs - Plugrock e.p. (1979)

A - Sally
B1 - UFO
B2 - Too late

I've had a couple of requests to post this 45 (I was a bit unsure as I remembered it to be just OK. After sticking it on the turntable last night, I'm happy to be wrong!!)

It may be their only release but it covers a multitude a genres, making it an enjoyable listen.

The "Lincoln" (that's the place not the shade of colour!) band are listed on the" fold over" sleeve as

Eddie (voc, lead guitar)
Harry (guitar, keyboard)
Denno (bass, backing voc)
Newy (drums,backing voc)

(For more info on this go here)

the band were

Ted Waite (voc, guitar)
