Just another site that's giving you hard to find music

A Place To Find Some Rarer Tunes (Mod, PowerPop, Punk, Ska) ripped from my vinyl collection. If it sounds good I'll post it. The idea being that now you know about them, you can seek them out! If anyone is unhappy about any of these posts please contact me & I will take them off.

The Gents - Upside Down (1980)

b/w - And Everyday

Here is the 1st 45 from this German mod Quartet (see my earlier post for their second & final platten)

The song writers of this 60's sounding 45 were

Stefan Bohrer & Robert Schlunze

I'm still no further on than before in finding anything out about the other 2 of them!

Rubberen Robbie - Geef Mij Maar Drank (1978)

b/w - Zuipen (Booze)

Here's an interesting pop punk 45 from Holland (Leiden), both tracks are a celebration of getting blocked

Geef Mij Maar Drank = But give me drink

(I shouldn't go looking for all of their records, some of the later ones are pretty awful)

The band were all ex Catapult (cool Nederglam band) & Monotones

Cess Bergman (voc)
Erwin Van Prehn (guitar)
Aart Mol (bass voc)
Geertjan Hessing (drums)
Elmer Veerhoff (keyboard)

The Government - Bottle, Stone & Stick (1980)

b/w - I'm Mad

Nice bit of ska/punk/reggae/dub for a change (I usually pass these on to Tone & Wave but I thought I'd try them on you instead)

This 45 was a taster for an LP (both theses tracks are included on it)
It was the soundtrack to a play that did the rounds of the UK called "Mama Dragon" by successful writer/activist Farruk Dhondy

The Diplomats - Memories Of You (1982)

b/w - I'll keep on holding on

Another request & it's quite a good one for this Yorkshire Mod band's only 45 release.
My only complaint is there's a bit too much synth!

Still, a great cover of I'll keep on holding on

The band were
Andy Welsh (voc guitar)
Jon Driver (bass keyboards)
Roger Goodgroves (keyboards)
Ian Wilkinson (drums)

The Employees - Kilroy was here (1982)

B1 - Eating Beans
B2 - Train

Another punk / powerpop 45 that I can find nothing about

The songwriters were Bertram & Hazlett, it's an srts pressing & I suspect it was never released with a picture sleeve, are about as helpful as I can get - Anyone got anything else to add?

BTW, B2 - Train is my pick of the bunch

Roxette - Another Girl (1982)

B1 - Man and Boy
B2 - I keep Knocking

As promised here's the 2nd (final?) 45 from this Kent band.

Again it's fine 60's tinged powerpop but with more of a Beatles sound creeping in

For the band details see my earlier post  & in the comments Section

Thanks to Wag for the extra info (see comments on both 45's)

Roxette - Roxette EP (1980)

A1 - Giving up the beer
A2 - Little Girl
B1 - Love will take it's toll
B2 - Hold me close

Very Nice 60's flavoured mod / powerpop ep from this Kent band (Tunbridge Wells area going by the sleeve)

I can't choose between A2 or B2 as my pick of this ep.

What I can tell you is there was a 2nd 45 in 1982 (which I think is even better) guess what's coming tomorrow!!

the Band on this 45 were

Paul (Wag) Waghorn (voc guitar)
Kevin Fowler (guitar voc)
Steve Wright (bass)
Barry Dence (drums)

Thanks to Wag for the extra info (see comments on both 45's)

MI5 - Alright on the night (1980)

B1 - Television Screen Heroes
B2 - Don't Make Waves

Nice 3 track New wave 45

Tracks 1 & 3 owe a heavy debt to "the police" in that they are punky white reggae but Television Screen Heroes is the real winner to these ears.

The South London based three piece were

Keith Smart (voc bass) make sure you follow the link for interesting incite into the band
Kevin Leigh (guitar)
Pete Muller (drums)

According to the labels the songs are all penned by Kevin Buckley (there's no mention of this name in the above piece thou!!!)

Andy Watts and Cobra - Anna (1977)

b/w - I don't wanna fight

(This, their sole vinyl output was recorded @ Luton's Quest studios)

OK it's a record of 2 sides (obviously!!)

Anna is for all those of you that are partial to a bit of Hardrock (its a bit early for the NWOBHM but still works as a genre)
I don't wanna fight is a classy New wave / punk track that I think most of you will find interesting.

The band were

Colin Lickorish (voc)
John Lucey (guitar)
Chris Cook (guitar)
Alan Pepper (bass)
Andy Price -Watts (drums) - probably more famous for his part in the fake "Roswell autopsy video"
