This is a cool punk / powerpop tune that was privately released on the Ponce Pilate label & was aledgedly so disgusting that it had to be censored & re-released on Virgin. (both versions are in the download) Depending on what you want to believe this could be true or just a bit of "Branson Hype"
Saying that, if your French is any good you will note that the lyrics are a bit risky for the early 80's

BTW - I'm presuming as the tune has a 60's "ye ye" feel to it that they are refering to the 60's icon Sheila (Bit of A guilty pleasure this song)
During most of the 70's, Sheila had to face a nasty rumor saying she's not a girl but a boy. OENIX made fun with this singing :"They want to have sex with Sheila, too bad it's a guy". Sheila sued (or threatened to - I don't remember), original copies on Ponce Pilate had to be withdrawn but Virgin jumped on the wagon and released a "biped" version.
ReplyDeleteNICK.
Thanks Nick, that makes a lot more sense than some of the other things I'd read.
ReplyDeleteMany thankx for this single!!! Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteHello,

ReplyDeleteThis is going to sound very cliché and may even seem false, but I can attest that it is true: the mother of a friend worked (now she is retired) as a nurse in a parisian hospital where Sheila used to be treated. According to her, Sheila is not transsexual, but she has an advanced degree of hermaphroditism. Because of this, Sheila has been receiving hormones since childhood.
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty interesting case.
Here's a photo of her without hormones: http://loverde.pagesperso-orange.fr/URBANLEGEND/images/sheila_rumeur.jpg
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know how to get a hold of the band?
