The Kut - Can't Sleep At Night (1980)

2 New Wave tracks from this Scottish (Inverness) Band that are very much in The Police style. Faithful being the better track to my ears.

Unfortunatly I don't know much about the band, the Drummer was Kevin Mcloughlin & another member was Donnie 'Kenya' Fraser (unless he was their manager)

The band aparently began life as The Kick before changing their name to Kut (I guess because there was already at least 2 bands of that name around at the time) Again I can't be sure if they managed a full UK tour but they did venture South to play London's The Marquee Club.

The 45 was recorded at the (24 track)  Highland Recording Studios in Gollanfield, Inverness & produced/mixed by the band with help from David Balfe

This is for Razor over at short sharp kick in the teeth who has just posted their 2nd (& final) 45.
There was a 3rd "So Sad / Head For The Hills" that was recorded but unreleased ( I'm not sure if there are any promo/acetates around)
BTW the 2nd 45 was released due to them winning recording time from a Vancouver "Battle of the bands" contest - beating amongst others the Modernettes (punk Powerpop) / Microwave (Rock) & Volts (Rock)

The Vancouver based Band (1979 - '81) were

Kim Clarke R.I.P. (voc guitar)
Jack Matthews (guitar voc)
Elmar Spanier (bass voc) later in Blue Shadows
Jay "J.B." Johnson (drums voc) later in Blue Shadows

In 1984, 3 members formed Moccasin Telegraph with a new bass player Barry Weih (Wye).

This time from a bunch of Aldgate (East London) boys who are better known for their later releases on the countdown label

the band were

My best guess as to why there are 2 different sleeve; is that the 1st was a rush job so they could sell them at gigs.

The drummer stayed with Eddie Pillar & recorded on another of his labels with the "never as famous as they should have been" Mother Earth
